Probably more of a mid-level hosting provider, they offer several packages starting as low as $3 a month.  While that might seem like a stripped down hosting service, they offer a great deal of features for that low price.  If you do not need the mission critical service like mediatemple, 1&1 is a viable solution.  There are some features that are not available with their service and that includes authenticated email support.
